Sustainable Initiatives
Loyola students, faculty, and staff are advancing multiple initiatives to reduce our environmental footprint. See the links below to learn more about current activities.
Climate Action
Loyola is taking action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen resilience, and build a more sustainable future for our campuses and communities. These efforts are guided by ambitious, long-term goals outlined in Loyola’s Climate Action Plan.
Energy
Powering a university takes a lot of energy, which is why Loyola is continually working to reduce energy use across our campuses. Loyola is powered by 100% renewable electricity while also investing in energy efficiency, sustainable building systems, and infrastructure improvements.
Zero Waste
Loyola is making great strides to conserve resources and reduce the university’s environmental impact through our waste reduction, recycling, composting, and reuse efforts. Learn more and find out how you can get involved.
Water
Our campus community strives to use water responsibly and advocates for access to clean water for all.
Transportation
Loyola supports a variety of lower-carbon transportation options, including public transit, biking, walking, carpooling, and other programs that help our community reduce the environmental impact of commuting.
Food and Dining
Loyola is working to create a more sustainable food system on campus through responsible sourcing, plant-forward options, and partnerships that make sustainable dining choices easier for our community.
Environmental Justice
Environmental challenges do not affect all communities equally. Loyola works to advance environmental justice by recognizing these inequities and supporting initiatives, partnerships, and education that promote healthier environments and more equitable, resilient communities.
Integration into Teaching and Research
Loyola's faculty lead sustainability efforts through engaging students, conducting research, advocating for improvements, and connecting justice and equity throughout.
