How it Works

2 students walk up the stairs at the Chicago red line stop

Unlimited Rides

Once it is determined that a student is eligible to participate in the U-Pass program, students are free to ride the Chicago Transit Authority on an unlimited basis. This unlimited privilege is valid for CTA buses and trains. The U-Pass program is NOT valid for Pace and Metra services.

You do not need to do anything to register for the U-Pass program: as long as you are eligible, you will be able to use your U-Pass entitlement and will see the fee for it (included in your tuition) on your eBill.

Fees for Spring 2024 are as follows:

Undergrad/Grad/HSC Students: $160 per semester
Law: $174 per semester
Quinlan Graduate School of Business Students: $115 per quarter
Arrupe College Students: $125 per semester (please note that Arrupe fees and eligibility work differently: for questions please contact upass@luc.edu)

Ready to Ride?

When students are ready to ride, they can follow these steps to access buses and trains:

CTA Buses: Touch your Ventra card to the Ventra reader as you are entering the bus.

CTA Trains: Touch your Ventra card to the Ventra reader at the turnstyle and wait for the "Go" light. Do not touch it multiple times or you could be charged a full-fare and temporarily deactivate your U-Pass.

Please see U-Pass Troubleshooting in the event your card is not working.
