Emergency Response Plan

Emergency Notification

In the event of an emergency, immediate notification to the Department of Campus Safety (4-4911) is essential to ensure the timely response of emergency personnel.

Switchboard and Helpdesk (Call Center)

As part of the emergency notification process, the Switchboard and Help Desk are to be notified. The Director of Public Safety or his/her representative will notify Information Services management of the nature of the event. Information Services management will instruct the Switchboard and the Helpdesk how to respond to trouble calls and inquiries in the immediate term. The Switchboard and Help Desk manager will update these instructions as the impact of the emergency is assessed. Depending on the nature of the emergency, the manager may elect to implement an automatic message with an option for the caller to remain on the line.

Switchboard phone number:

  • From a Loyola phone, enter "0" or dial 8-3000
  • From outside Loyola, 312.915.6000

The Switchboard is manned Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Outside of these hours an automated menu handles the calls.

Help Desk (Call Center) phone number: 4-4444

  • To reach the Call Center from outside Loyola, 773.508.7190

The Call Center is manned from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Outside of these hours, calls are routed to the 24/7 computer operations staff in Maywood. They can be reached from outside Loyola at 708.216.9034.

The emergency number for the Call Center is 8-2700. This will bypass the auto-attendant.

Example: A power outage at Lake Shore Campus can affect Internet access, dial-up access, and other services on all campuses. This normally would generate a large number of trouble calls, but a properly informed Switchboard and Call Center can act as an information clearinghouse and provide accurate responses to callers.
