Anatomical Donor Service of Gratitude

Memorial plaque dedicated during the 2025 Anatomical Donor Service of Gratitude.

To honor the memory of those who so generously donated their bodies to advance the training of student physicians, medical practitioners, and allied healthcare students, the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine cordially invited all who were able to attend an interfaith Anatomical Donor Service of Gratitude on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 9:00 AM Central Time.

Many generous individuals made a gift of their body to the Anatomical Gift Association of Illinois (AGAI), which prepared their body and ultimately transported it to Loyola University Chicago. Here in our medical school, under the skillful direction of anatomy faculty, these individuals served as a “silent teacher,” helping medical professionals and students advance their knowledge of human anatomy for the practice of medicine.

Guests were invited to join us at the Stritch School of Medicine for a Service of Gratitude in which we honored the lives of those whose donation left a significant impression on our students and trainees, inspiring them to deepen their understanding of the human body and have compassion and empathy for their future patients. We gathered for an interfaith service of remembrance that included sacred readings, hymns, and student reflections. Afterwards, we assembled in our courtyard for the dedication of a memorial tree that will serve as a living reminder of our generous donors.
