Reaffirming Our Commitment to Advocating and Supporting All Students

October 9, 2019

Dear Students:

You may be aware of the recent video that was circulated depicting what appears to be someone throwing away menstrual products in a campus restroom. The products also appear to be part of an initiative led by the Students for Reproductive Justice meant, in part, to support our transgender community. These actions, if true, go against the values outlined in the Student Promise of caring for ourselves, for others, and for our community, and more importantly, in our Jesuit tradition. Although the matter was quickly referred to the Office for Equity and Compliance and is formally being addressed, I am aware of the impact this type of behavior has on LGBTQ students and the broader community. Please know the University is doing everything it can to respond in a way that helps both educate and support students.

My office and the departments in my area reaffirm our commitment to be the voice and support for all students. We are dedicated to inclusion, diversity, and social justice. All members of our community deserve to feel safe, respected, and valued. Students, know that you are not alone, and we are here to help!
