Graduate Student Community and Council

The Graduate School is committed to providing the best service and opportunities that meet the unique experiences of our graduate and professional students. We strive to create programming that contributes to the professional and academic development of our students and enhances their quality of life while at Loyola University Chicago. Our goal is to establish an engaged graduate and professional student community, identify graduate student needs and address graduate student concerns.

Graduate, Professional and Adult Student Life

The Graduate School works collaboratively with key University offices to positively enhance student life at the graduate level for our current and future graduate students. A key partner in this work is Graduate, Professional, and Adult Student Life (GPASL), who have recently spearheaded an effort to help graduate students build community in an increasingly virtual world through GPASTeams. We hope all graduate students will join the discussion!

Students can also make use of the Resources list, created by GPASL, which features many resources available to help ensure success for our Graduate, Professional and Adult Students.

Graduate Student Advisory Council

The Graduate Student Advisory Counctil (GSAC) serves as the voice of the graduate student body by facilitating communication between the students, faculty, and administration. GSAC also host regular social gatherings throughout the academic year, as well as the Annual Graduate School Interdisciplinary Research Symposium.

Graduate Student Lounge and Study Area

Cudahy Library has Graduate Study Carrels. Study carrels are available to PhD candidates who are either 1) doing dissertation research, or 2) studying for comprehensive exams. Carrel assignments are on a first-come, first-served basis, and there is often a wait list. Please contact David Schmidt with questions about availability.

Cudahy and Lewis libraries also have Graduate Study Lounges:

  • Cudahy Library - Graduate students can borrow a Study Lounge key at the Cudahy Circulation Desk. The key will open either of the lounge areas on the 3rd floor.
  • Lewis Library - Graduate students can use the Collaborative Study Space located at Corboy, Lewis Library. Proceed to the 6th floor library entrance, and then use the library elevator to the 9th Floor, Room 900.
