About

Rory Jobst is a professor, writer, playwright, actor, and director based in Chicago. He is the former Film Producer for Oracle Productions, and has reviewed movies on the radio for Bulldog’s Rude Awakening Show and co-hosted the television series and podcast DVD Geeks. He has also contributed to the AV Club, the Chicago Arts Journal, and Consequence of Sound. As a writer and actor, he is most proud of his portrayal as Daniel Johnston in his original solo performance The Belle of Austin, exploring Johnston's life in the style of Emily Dickinson's letters. His specialty is exploring the intersectionality of film analysis and college composition; he has taught such courses as Character Transformation in Film, Chick Flicks?: Feminist Directed Films, and Iranian Film and Composition. He has been obsessed with movies since he was an infant, when his mother, a projectionist at an experimental movie house, used to take him with her to work. He lives in Roger's Park with his three cats Terrence Malick, Miss Laura Keene, and Lucy.
