Master of Science in Chemistry (Thesis-Based)
Courses: 5 required
At least two from the student's major field
Three in the other disciplines
24 credit hours required (includes research)
Write and defend a research thesis
Length of program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 2 years.
Part-time students generally complete the program in 3.5 years.
Master of Science in Chemistry (Course-Based)
Courses: 8 Graduate Level Courses, 24 Credit hours
One course must be taken in four of the following five areas:
Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical
Remaining courses can be distributed or a student can specialize in an area
Length of program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 1.5 years.
Part-time students generally complete the program in 2 years.
Doctor of Philosophy in Chemistry (PhD)
Courses : 5 required
Specialize in 1 of 5 areas:
Analytical, Biochemistry, Inorganic, Organic, and Physical
Three are taken in the areas of specialization
Two outside the areas of specialization
Research: 60 credit hours
Write and defend a research thesis
Length of the program: Full-time students usually complete the program in 4.5 years.
Part-time students generally complete the program in 7 years.
5 Year BS/MS in Chemistry
Courses: Two graduate level courses must be taken during senior year.
During the 5th year: six graduate courses should be taken at the 400-level.
