What prompted you to pursue your field?

For me, public health and social justice are intertwined. After graduating with a degree as a physician’s assistant, I volunteered for a year working in a clinic in rural Honduras. That experience converted me to public health with a focus on global health and health promotion, and I never looked back. I have worked in health education and health promotion both in Latin America (10 years) and with immigrant and refugee populations in the Chicago area for over 25 years.

What's it like to teach at Parkinson?

I love teaching at Loyola because I cherish the opportunity to form the next generation of public health professionals, and Loyola’s commitment to service to humanity through learning, justice, and faith rings true to my values.
