Message from Dr. Rooney
AUGUST 6 · 6:35 P.M.

Dear Loyola Community,

As follow-up to earlier communications today, I am reaching out directly to students and families and to the wider University community to provide background on our difficult decision to suspend plans to host students in on-campus residence halls until conditions are favorable.

As we stated, we share the deep disappointment inherent in this decision, even though it is the right decision. Faculty and staff worked tirelessly this summer to prepare our campuses for the fall semester, and I am deeply grateful for the way our community has come together as people for others to begin a new academic year in a safe and healthy way. Navigating this pandemic has required compassion, prudence, resourcefulness, and, perhaps above all, flexibility. The work you have done prepares Loyola well for a future return to on-campus life and learning.

Whether fully on campus or remote, we are called to teach, to inquire, to learn, and to serve. Our priority in this time of change and uncertainty is providing academic continuity and quality while fostering the greater good of our students, staff, faculty, and the larger Chicagoland community. Thank you for all that you do, each and every day, to answer the call.

Sincerely,

Jo Ann Rooney, JD, LLM, EdD
President

University Preparedness Planning

Loyola University Chicago's emergency response, planning, and decision making which began back in February, has evolved as the pandemic unfolded and is on-going. Our top priority remains Health & Safety, followed by academic continuity (teaching, research and learning) and student recruitment & retention. The emergency response organizational chart depicts our current organization structure. This will continue to evolve—expanding and contracting as needed by our response. There are now nearly 250 faculty, staff and students working daily on our emergency response and planning for a return to the “next normal” of University Operations. Learn more

Reporting Protocol

Loyola's Emergency Response Management team has been working to develop protocols in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines that help ensure the health and safety of our community. Given the rising number of COVID-19 cases across our country, students, faculty, and staff who have tested positive for COVID-19 must report their case to the University as soon as possible. If you have tested positive for the virus, please contact us at COVID-19report@LUC.edu or by calling 773-508-7707.  More Information »
