Crime Alert - Attempted Armed Robbery at 1331 W. Loyola Avenue

Loyola Community,

The Department of Campus Safety is writing to notify you about an attempted armed robbery that occurred early this morning near the Lake Shore Campus.

At approximately 3:40 a.m., two non-Loyola-affiliated individuals were in a vehicle at 1331 W. Loyola Avenue when they were approached by two offenders on foot. One of the offenders displayed a black handgun and demanded the car keys. An individual in the car began screaming, which caused the offenders to flee and allowed the victims to leave the scene.

The Chicago Police Department describes the offenders as male, ages 19 to 20, 5’8”, and 140 to 160 pounds. One of the offenders was last seen wearing a black mask, orange coat, and dark pants. The second offender was reportedly wearing a black mask, gray coat, hooded sweatshirt, and dark pants.

Please also keep the following safety tips in mind:

  • If a person threatens you with a weapon, follow their demands and run away as soon as it is safe to do so. Once in a safe place, immediately notify Campus Safety or the Chicago Police Department.
  • Investigative follow-up will be dependent on the amount of detail a person can recall. It is important to remember as many identifying characteristics about the offender(s) as possible. This can include physical characteristics of the person, their clothing, any weapons used, direction of flight, etc.
