Construction and Parking during Commencement Week
We look forward to welcoming thousands of students, faculty, staff, and guests at Commencement ceremonies during the week of May 7. Please note that a developer is undertaking a new construction project scheduled to begin on May 7, the week of Commencement, which likely will affect traffic patterns at and near the intersection of West Devon Avenue and North Sheridan/Broadway. Although this is not a University project, we want to make our community aware of the traffic implications when traveling to the Lake Shore Campus. You are encouraged to avoid that intersection if possible.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your trip:

  • Plan extra time. For visitors driving to campus, allow extra time to account for potentially slow and one-lane traffic and significant delays. Consider taking public transportation if you are able. Learn more about getting to the Lake Shore Campus.
  • Alternate routes. A campus map with suggested alternate routes is available online. You are encouraged to view the map, where the planned construction site is marked, and consider traveling farther west or south around the intersection as you approach campus.
  • Stay updated. Any changes or additional information will be posted at LUC.edu/Commencement.

Also during this time, use of the Main Parking Structure will be limited to graduating students and their guests. Alternatively, faculty and staff can park in Fordham Garage, West Loyola Lot at 1236 W. Loyola Ave., Contractor’s Lot at 1227 W. Loyola Ave., and St. Louis Lot at 1245 W. Loyola Ave. (entry to the St. Louis Lot is in the alley). Please be advised that we are expecting the heaviest traffic on Thursday, May 10, and Friday, May 11.
