Symme-Tri-Dye

The Mathematics and Statistics Club is hosting a Symme-Tri-Dye Event on April 24th from 4:00pm-5:30pm in IES 123. Dr. Emily Peters will give a brief talk on symmetry for the first 10-15 minutes and then everyone will get a chance to tie-dye their own shirts in an outdoor location! Supplies such as T-shirts, dye, rubber bands, and garbage bags will be provided. Insomnia cookies will be served!

Maggie Gonzalez Wins President's Medallion

Maggie Gonzalez, a Senior majoring in Mathematics, Statistics, Environmental Studies, and Spanish, was awarded the 2026 President’s Medallion at Loyola University Chicago, an award which recognizes outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and service. DataFest is a data "hackathon" for students to motivate a data-analysis class project, that makes data analysis more fun and meaningful while incentivizing good scientific practice and presentation. Now sponsored by the American Statistical Association, ASA DataFest is run through several host institutions across the country, including right here at Loyola University Chicago (March 20-22). Loyola's Applied Statistics and Data Analytics Career Night

Loyola's Applied Statistics and Data Analytics held their annual Career Night and Pizza panel discussion event earlier this month. Six Applied Statistics – Data Analytics graduates/panelists were present to lend advice and participate in discussions about jobs/careers in applied statistics, biostatistics, predictive modelling, data analytics, big data, data science, etc. Thanks to all who attended and contributed! Loyola University Chicago SIAM Student Chapter

SIAM (Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) has recently recognized the LUC SIAM Student Chapter in a feature article. The chapter held several successful events during the 2024-2025 academic year and established a strong presence on campus. CAS Alumni Spotlight: Daniella Pombo

The College of Arts and Sciences at Loyola University Chicago has chosen to spotlight LUC math alumni, Daniella Pombo. Daniella works for IBM where she manages a multimillion-dollar portfolio of clients with a focus on business strategy. Her journey from biology to mathematics to computer science to software engineering to business succeess inspires us. Well done, Daniella!

AWM Distinguished Service Award for Anne Leggett

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics in pleased to announce that the AWM Distinguished Service Award will be presented to our own Anne Leggett, Professor Emerita, Loyola University Chicago. This award is given to individuals who have promoted and supported women in mathematics through exceptional and sustained volunteer service to the AWM. Congratulations, Anne!
