Crime Alert - Armed Robbery at 1102 W. Granville

Loyola Community,

The Department of Campus Safety is writing to inform you about an armed robbery that occurred this morning near the Lake Shore Campus.

At approximately 3:14 a.m., an armed offender walked into Sam’s Chicken and Ribs located at 1102 W. Granville Avenue and committed an armed robbery. The Chicago Police Department arrived on the scene and observed the offender run into a nearby building and began a pursuit of the offender. The Chicago Police Department was unable to locate the offender, but they did recover some clothing the offender was wearing and a gun.

The description of the offender provided by the Chicago Police Department is male, black, 30-40 years old, 5'11", and 200 pounds. During the robbery, the subject was wearing a black hat, black ski mask, black jacket, black gloves, and was armed with a silver handgun.

Please also keep the following tips in mind:

  • If a person threatens you with a weapon, follow their demands and run away as soon as it’s safe to do so. Once in a safe place, immediately notify Campus Safety or the Chicago Police Department.
  • When walking alone, stay alert and tuned in to your surroundings. Walk in well-lit areas and stay away from alleys.
  • Do not allow people to follow you into secured areas. If you believe someone has followed you in, immediately report it to Campus Safety.
