Jesuit Community Audio-Visual Digitization Grant

In 2017, the Loyola Special Collections received a gift of $10,000 from the Jesuit Community of Loyola University Chicago to digitize approximately 138 reel-to-reel tapes, films, and videos from our audio-visual collection. Among the materials digitized through this grant are the audio tapes of the 1970 Centennial Symposium featuring internationally recognized speakers such as Victor Frankl and Hannah Arendt; video tapes from the Matteo Ricci Symposium in the 1980s; audio tapes of lectures given by Jesuits; audio tapes of Raymond C. Baumhart, S.J.'s inauguration in 1970; and films documenting class reunions and Fr. James Mertz, S.J.

Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic impacted work on this project. LUCASC staff are still working on captioning and transcribing the files before they can be uploaded to our digital collections. Below are links to the audio and video currently online.
