Doctoral Student Wins Top Prize at Regional Three Minute Thesis Finals

Following her first place and Audience Favorite wins at Loyola's Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, Hershey Kondeti, a doctoral student in the Department of Pharmacology, traveled to the regional finals which took place at the Midwestern Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) Annual Meeting in Chicago in March. There, Ms. Kondeti competed against fifty other students from institutions throughout the Midwest in a competition designed to test students' research communication abilities. Hershey won the first place prize with her presentation titled, "Straight out of a Science-Fiction Novel: The road to curing Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease". She will now go on to compete in the national 3MT finals in Washington D.C. in December.

Developed by The University of Queensland, 3MT cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills. The competition supports their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.
