Markeda Newell

Markeda Newell, Ph.D.

Markeda Newell serves as the lead administrator on faculty matters including creating new policies and procedures to support faculty, with an eye towards equity, inclusion and access; overseeing promotion, tenure and review processes; new faculty orientation, mentoring, and faculty development programs; initiatives to recruit and retain underrepresented faculty; and sabbaticals and faculty awards. The Interim Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs works with academic leaders across campus under the One Loyola model to enhance LUC’s efforts to support faculty from recruitment to retirement.

Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs (HSC)

Michelle Pencyla, M.Ed.

Michelle Pencyla supports all operational functions and strategic initiatives within Faculty Affairs as they relate to the faculty career progression; oversees all administrative processes relative to faculty affairs including onboarding and contracts; implements and evaluates changes in processes designed to enhance faculty support services.

Christine Pajunar Li-Grining
Director, Center for Faculty Excellence

Christine Pajunar Li-Grining, Ph.D.

Christine Pajunar Li-Grining is the Director for the Center for Faculty Excellence. In this role, she provides leadership across campuses in the creation, development, implementation, and enhancement of faculty development programs (e.g., faculty writing groups, faculty mentoring program). In doing so, she helps connect faculty who share interests and identities across campuses. These institution-wide initiatives support faculty in their scholarship and creative endeavors as well as faculty retention.

Julia Elsky
Associate Director of Faculty Affairs

Julia Elsky, Ph.D.

Julia Elsky is the Associate Director who primarily manages faculty review, promotion, tenure, and awards processes through the Interfolio Review, Promotion, and Tenure (RPT) module in collaboration with the Faculty Affairs Specialist, academic units, and the Faculty Development Review Committee (FDRC). The Associate Director leads the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Liaison (DEIL) program by providing support to DEILS and helping scale the program to meet the needs of academic units, as well as best practices to faculty search committees as well as rank and tenure committees.

Shonda Smith
Director of Faculty Administration

Shonda Smith

Shonda Smith is Director of Faculty Administration, oversees the administrative management related to faculty contracts, reappointments, and financial expenditures. Shonda manages FIS modules providing access and training to administrative faculty and support staff, and serves as a liaison between Academic Affairs, Human Resources, Payroll services, school administrators, and faculty members.

Magdalena Cabral

Magdalena Cabral is a Faculty Affairs Specialist managing the onboarding, rank approval, promotion processes, and transitions of faculty at Lakeshore and Water Tower campuses throughout their tenure at LUC. Magdalena manages and coordinates the workflow of faculty appointments/contracts, leaves, promotion and tenure, faculty development review, faculty recruitment/appointment, and faculty orientation, and serves as primary liaison between the office of Human Resources, department administrators, and faculty members.

The Faculty Affairs Coordinator is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Office of Faculty Affairs providing assistance to constituents in domains including faculty onboarding, credentialing, payroll, scheduling and logistics, and other activities as needed.

Faculty Data Coordinator

Nataly Quito

Nataly is the data coordinator in Faculty Administration on the Health Science Campus (HSC). Nataly manages the onboarding, annual evaluation, promotion, and transition process for health sciences faculty throughout their tenure at LUC. In addition to maintaining faculty files, she assists with processing requests for faculty information and data.

Lurdes Llapa

Lurdes Llapa is a coordinator in Faculty Administration at the Health Science Campus (HSC). Lurdes assists with faculty onboarding, contract processing, rank approval, and promotion. She supports faculty and faculty staff with procedures and paperwork required for various processes and verifies and resolves faculty data issues within the University's data systems.
