The MDiv/MA in Pastoral Counseling

Integrate ministry, theology, and mental health professions

The dual Master of Divinity (MDiv) and Master of Arts in Pastoral Counseling (MAPC) at Loyola University Chicago prepares students who feel called to serve at the intersection of ministry, spiritual care, and mental health counseling.

Through one integrated course of study, students develop the theological depth, spiritual formation, and practical skills needed for ministerial leadership alongside professional preparation in spiritually integrated clinical mental health counseling (including preparation to become a Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC). The result is a distinctive education for those who want to accompany individuals and communities with attention to the whole person: uniting the spiritual, emotional, relational, and social dimensions.

The program can be pursued full-time or part-time, with both in-person and online study available. Students earn both the Master of Divinity and the MA in Pastoral Counseling, opening pathways to professional ministry as well as clinical counseling and related forms of spiritual and pastoral care.
