About

Timothy McDonald, a physician-attorney, serves as the Chief Patient Safety and Risk Officer for RLDatix and is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Loyola University – Chicago. He has assisted more than 800 US hospitals and health systems implement the comprehensive, principled and systematic approach to the prevention and response to harm in healthcare. His research has focused on this approach that includes a commitment to communicate and provide peer support within the healthcare team and to communicate openly and honestly with patients and families throughout the therapeutic relationship, including after medical errors or mistakes. His federally funded research has focused on these domains and their impact on improving the quality of healthcare while mitigating medical liability issues, He has received numerous Patient Safety awards and has published more than 100 book chapter and articles in high impact peer reviewed journals such as Health Affairs, Health Services Research, and the New England Journal of Medicine.
