Panopto

Panopto is a lecture capture software that allows users to record video, audio, screen capture, and slides into a single session. All Loyola faculty, staff, and students can create and share recordings in Panopto.  

Panopto offers many teaching and learning uses with audiovisual content, including: 

  • Pre-recording lectures for blended, flipped, and/or online courses 
  • Students creating recordings for an assignment or project 
  • Uploading pre-made audiovisual content to share with others 
  • Recording in-person class sessions using a video-equipped classroom on campus 
  • Creating and sharing video tutorials for staff professional development and training 

Integrated with Sakai, users can access Panopto through Sakai sites that include Panopto in the site’s Tool Menu, or via an embedded or linked video on a Sakai Lessons page. Users may also login directly to Loyola’s Panopto website.

Retention Policy

Loyola University Chicago approved a retention policy for Panopto cloud recordings that went into effect on July 19, 2024. All cloud recordings are retained for four (4) years. Cloud recordings that have not been viewed, edited, or accessed in over 4 years will be moved to Archive. Those cloud recordings that remain in Archive for one additional year will be automatically deleted.
