LOCUS Upgrade

The Office of Registration and Records and Information Technology Services are pleased to announce the launch of a new user experience for LOCUS! Known as “Fluid Navigation”, the upgraded functionality will allow for easier navigation of the system via Homepages and Tiles, with the ultimate goal of a mobile-friendly solution.

Who is affected?

This change will affect all LOCUS users:  students, faculty, and staff.

When is the change happening?

LOCUS will be unavailable on Saturday, March 6 and Sunday, March 7, 2021.  The upgraded system will come back online on Monday, March 8.

How do I log in?

You will still find LOCUS at locus.luc.edu

You may need to clear your browser cache before logging into the upgraded system for the first time.

What is changing? What will it look like?

  • Want a sneak peek? We’ve created two short videos to introduce the new LOCUS, one for staff and faculty and one for students.
  • The first change you’ll notice is the login page to LOCUS:
"Old" LOCUS:"New" LOCUS:
  • After you log in using your UVID and password, you’ll see your default Homepage.
  • If you’re a student, LOCUS will look like this:

  • Everything you need to do as a student in LOCUS can be found on one of Tiles on this Homepage.
    • To search and register for classes, click on the Manage Classes tile.
    • To see your grades or submit a transcript request, click on Academic Records.
    • To pay your bill or create an iPlan, click on Financial Account
    • Explore all the tiles! No actual functionality within LOCUS has changed.  Everything you need is still here.
  • If you’re a Faculty member, LOCUS will look like this:

  • The Faculty Center is still where you’ll find your teaching schedule, your rosters, and your advisees.
  • Depending on your various roles at the University, you may have access to additional homepages – click on the white arrow to the left of “Faculty Homepage” to explore.
  • Staff at Loyola will have access to one of a variety of Homepages when they log in. For example, an Academic Advisor would see the Academic Advising homepage:

  • Similarly, someone who works in the Financial Aid office would see:

  • If you don’t use LOCUS as part of your job every day, you will probably have access to the General LOCUS Homepage, which has fewer Tiles.
  • It’s important to know that Homepages and Tiles are not the only way that Staff may find the pages they need. On the top right corner of the maroon banner, there are some important icons:

Clicking on this Compass   will open a tool called the NavBar:

LOCUS Nav Bar3

  • Another icon on the top right corner of the maroon banner that staff might find useful is the Global Search:

  • You can type in a description of the page you’re trying to find and the Search engine will find you a list of related pages to which you have Security access in LOCUS.

       Questions?

  • If you have questions about the system transition project, ask locus@luc.edu
  • We are creating comprehensive training materials that will be available to staff and students after the system transition is complete. A link to these materials will be posted here when available.
